I'm the one in the background with the big ears!!

The good looking one is Toby.  Sadly no l,onger with us.

I have from a young age always been interested in health related services.  Only to be told, as a child, that a nurses life was not for men!

I started helping by introducing a relaxation technique in pallative care as a volunteer at The Florence Nightingale Hospice at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury Buckinghamshire.

During this time I became interested in The Bowen Technique and trained with the ECBS. Apart from finding out how wonderful the technique is, I was keen to be trained in something that required expertise in the human anatomy and the understanding of how the body operates.

I ‘m a member of BTPR and have achieved a diploma in Anatomy and Physiology.

I have also taken the ECBS advance course in the Bowen Technique, attended various courses including;

  • Vodder MLD, full CDT qualification
  • Bowen and Parkinson's,
  • Anatomny Trains body disertion with Tom Myres
  • Advanced Anatomy core stability disection of the spine.
  • Full 5 day disection of the human body with Gil Hedley Phd,
  • Modern (gentle) Myofascia Release (John Barnes technique)
  • ECBS  posture and alignment (Anatomny Trains)
  • ECBS Bowen & Asthma
  • ECBS Shoulder and Pelvic course
  • Apointed First Aid for therapist

Moving on, I wanted to treat more clients who had suffered the effect of cancer and trained in the Dr Vodder technique of manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)  This is widely recognised as the standard treatment method for lymphoedema.

I am employed by The Mount Vernon Hospital on a part time basis in thier Lymphoedema Clinic.  Here I'm able or use by skills gained in from my clinic and also able to bring to my clinic good practices that I lean at Mount Vernon.

Being a staff member within the NHS is something I'm very proud of.  It means that I have met the very strict clinical governance requirements that is necessary to be employed in such a position.

The MLD final course is a very demanding to take and the final qualification allows the therapist to treat pathological conditions and incomplete lymphatic systems. I'm a full CDT member of MLD uk

You are required to be reassessed every two years to maintain your qualfication.

The Vodder method also enables the therapist to treat less severe conditions (please see the MLD page)

I then progressed to Myofascial Release.  Why?  Because something was missing in my treatments of neck, back and pain management.  I do believe I have found it.  I now feel that I have all the necessary tools to correctly treat the majority of conditions I come across.  That is until the next insight into the human anatomy is discovered.  That is how we keep ahead of the game and how professional complementary therapists can lead the way forward for others to follow.
