“Quite simply one of the most straight forward and effective ‘hands on therapies available”

The Bowen technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy, named after its innovator Tom Bowen. The technique involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligaments, tendon and fascia in various parts of the body.

I speak from experience of dissecting cadavers to know the impact a gentle skin movement has upon deep muscle and fascia.

The work is very subtle, relaxing and gentle involving no hard or prolonged pressure. During a session the client will lie on a therapy table or bed, although the work can be effectively carried out with the client in a chair.

Many of our clients come for a Bowen treatment after having been every where else and have usually had a session of physiotherapy treatments. The Bowen Technique is not an alternative treatment, but a complimentary one.  For example with a frozen shoulder three Bowen treatments before referal to a physiotherapist should be the norm.  Soft and superficial fascia will be encouraged to be released, better facilitating the following physiotherapy treatment.

How can Bowen Help?

If you suffer from Asthma all I can say is give 'Bowen a go'.  I have surprised myself at how successful it is.

One of the most common conditions treated by Bowen is back pain. The average number of treatments would be two or four. There are always going to be exceptions to any rule, and certain people will need further or even on-going treatments. Some other conditions that have responded well include:

•Frozen/restricted shoulder
•Neck pain
•Hay fever
•Asthma
•Knee & ankle pain
•Carpal tunnel
•RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury)
•Glue ear
•Migraine
•posture & alignment
& many more...

Helping you Relax

Bowen is particularly effective with general relaxation and body re-balancing.

Within Bowen it is encouraged to allow the body to relax throughout the treatment. One feature of Bowen is for the therapist to leave the room between moves, this is a key element of Bowen and is a defining aspect of the technique as well as being one of the most important allowing the move to take full effect.

“We have had considerable success with childhood asthma, sciatic pain, back, and shoulder and neck pain.”

Bowen therapy is becoming recognised in the treatment of sports injury with sports enthusiasts reporting a decrease in the injures and an increase in performance when treated regularly.

The Bowen technique is suitable for all ages. Our clients have ranged in age form toddler to those approaching a hundred years young.
